Cute Bunny Witch On the Broom Halloween Theme Bento/ Lunchbox 萌兔万圣节主题便当


Rice-based food art ~ Cute Bunny Witch On the Broom Halloween Theme Bento/ Lunch box.

Earlier this month, my boy saw me drawing a picture of a bunny rabbit riding on a magical broom and he's been bugging me to make the bento. So here comes the spookily cute broom-stick bunny happily flying through the air... Happy Halloween!

Everything in this lunchbox are edible, except the ghost and pumpkin food picks!

What's in the bento box: The bunny is made of rice, below the seaweed are chicken meat and some rice. The bunny's witch hat and cape are made of sweet potato sheets, the broom is made of biscuit and tortilla wrap. Yellow buildings are Tamagoyaki/ rolled egg omelette and at the side are spinach and lettuce.

Pumpkin Bread 2-Flavour 原味|班兰南瓜造型软面包



This time, I've tried shaping soft bread dough with cooking twine that is able to hold the shapes after baked. Although it took more effort and time tying the twine, I'm happy with the end results. I made 2 flavours - plain and Pandan bread filled with Gula Melaka Coconut and red bean paste.



Since Halloween is around the corner, you can do this with your kids🎃 
Melt some chocolate or use chocolate hazelnut spread to draw the facial expression. 
Make these Jack-o'-lantern bread and have fun! 

Top: Pandan bread with Gula Melaka Coconut filling 
Bottom: Pandan bread with red bean paste filling
So fluffy and soft even on the next day!

I made these pumpkin-shaped bread using one of my favourite soft bread recipes. Click the link below to view the bread recipe 点击链接进入面包食谱: 

Notes: For Pandan-flavoured bread, knead in some Pandan paste or fresh Pandan extract to the dough. Refer to the above picture for the shaping idea, egg wash and bake 170'C for 15 minutes. Remove the twine after baked. I used Pretzel stick for the pumpkin stems. Have fun baking!

Pumpkin Melon Pan 南瓜日式菠萝包


Japanese Melon Pan is one of our favourite bread I often bake at home with different flavours such as strawberry melon pan, matcha melon pan, original and melon flavour melon pan. This time, I made pumpkin melon pan with caramel fillings, shaped into pumpkins and a little bear that's too cute to spook! :P Happy Halloween!

Ingredients:

Melon Pan Toppings:

80g Cake Flour

1/4 tsp Baking Powder

1 tsp Pumpkin Powder

25g Salted Butter

30g Icing Sugar

25g Egg

Some Castor Sugar

Stuart Minion Halloween Bento 小小兵/小黄人万圣节便当


BOO! Today is Halloween day, I made this rice based Stuart Minion Halloween Theme Bento for my boy. Stuart minion is made of pumpkin rice and seaweed. Side dishes are my boy's favourite homemade chicken nuggets, crab stick egg rolls and veggies. 




Here are some quick notes to show how I put this together:

1. Soak 70g sushi rice for 30 minutes, drain. Add 100g water and a slice of pumpkin, cover with lid and bring to boil, reduce to low heat, simmer for 10 minutes, let it sit for 10 minutes. Mash the pumpkin and mix with a small portion of rice.

2. Meanwhile, prepare the side dishes:

Jack-O-Lantern Halloween Bento 万圣节南瓜便当



Rice Based Bento ~ Jack-O-Lantern Halloween Bento 万圣节南瓜便当.

Halloween is nearing..... I made this not-scary-at-all Jack-O-Lantern bento for my boy. The bento filled with meat patties, veggies and pumpkin rice wrapped with egg sheet. A simple, nutritious and delicious lunchbox that kids would love!






Here are some quick notes to show how I put this together:

1. Soak 70g sushi rice for 30 minutes, drain. Add 100g water and a slice of pumpkin, cover with lid and bring to boil, reduce to low heat, simmer for 10 minutes, let it sit for 10 minutes. Mash the pumpkin to mix with rice, mix in some furikake/ rice topping if desired.

2. Meanwhile, prepare meat patties following this recipe:

I made the meat ball into meat patties and pan fried. With minimal gravy as I need to pack this in bento.

Harry Potter Halloween Theme Bento/ Honey Glazed Marmite Roast Chicken Rice 哈利波特便当/ 蜜汁妈蜜烤鸡饭



Rice Based Bento ~ Harry Potter Halloween Theme Bento/ Honey Glazed Marmite Roast Chicken Rice 哈利波特便当/ 妈蜜烤鸡饭。

2 months ago, I bought Harry Potter book set for my boy. Ever since he started reading the books, I wanted to make Harry Potter theme food for him. I'm glad that I finally made it. For the first time, a human character in my bento collection :D ... the cute version. My boy said look like him ^O-O^ ..LOL...









Here are some quick notes to show how I put this together:

2. Prepare Marmite Chicken using this recipe:

For boneless chicken thigh/ leg, bake at 180'C 20-25 minutes, baste and continue to bake for about 10 minutes or until cooked through.


3. Prepare Japanese Baked Fish Cake Rolled Omelette/ Egg Roll. Same recipe as this, just change the fillings:

4. Portion out some rice to make Harry Potter, add the remaining in bento box.







5. Assemble bento, add in other side dishes. Add facial details using seaweed and it's ready.

Bear Flying On Broomstick 巫师小飞熊饭团


Halloween Theme Rice Based Food Art - Bear Flying On Broomstick 巫师小飞熊饭团. 

It's Halloween! 

Thinking of halloween theme, the most iconic scene is probably a witch flying on her broomstick. Transforming the scene into food art, that may be too creepy for young children or at least I know my 8yo won't eat it. So I made a cute friendly bear flying on its sweet little broomstick instead. 





How I made it:

2. Portion out the rice, mix in some dark soy sauce and shape it into bear. Add facial details, cape and witch hat using seaweed.

Crazy Spider Halloween Bento 黐线蜘蛛便当



Rice Based Halloween Theme Food Art - Crazy Spider Bento 黐线蜘蛛便当. A hearty lunch box packed with nutritious and delicious home cooked food. Spider is made of rice wrapped with seaweed/ Nori, side dishes are stir fry broccoli & baby corn with squid, seaweed egg roll and pan fry miso salmon.






When my son came back from school, he asked me if I know any tongue twister that I could teach him. Yes, I know one in Cantonese....

"黐(chi)线(xian)蜘(zhi)蛛(zhu)条(tiao)蜘(zhi)蛛(zhu)丝(si)黐(chi)住(zhu)枝(zhi)树(shu)枝(zhi)" 

...his eyes rolled and asked me to explain the meaning. How to explain? "crazy spider's web sticking on a twig?" ....and the next question is "how", then "why?", "where"....

So to make it simpler to explain, I have made him this halloween theme lunch box. The answer is in there ;)

2. To assemble: Portion out some rice and wrap with seaweed. Fill up half of the lunchbox with the remaining rice, layer some lettuce at the bottom so you don't need to use so much rice. Place the rice ball on the plain rice, add facial details using cheese and seaweed. Cut out 8 thin seaweed to make the spider's legs and a long one as spider's web. Place the rest of the side dishes to fill up the empty space. Serve right away.

Spooky Polar & Pooh Bear 小熊小鬼呼呼万圣节饭团



Rice Based Halloween Theme Food Art - Spooky Polar & Pooh Bear 小熊小鬼呼呼万圣节饭团. Made these friendly bear ghosts for the little one to pair with Japanese curry and vegetables. Simple lunch but the kid loves it! 



How I made it:

2. Prepare side dishes: Saute baby french beans, broccoli and mushrooms with white onions, season with salt and pepper. 




3. Portion out some rice and mix with mashed pumpkin. Shape the rice into spooky bears as shown in the picture above. Add facial details using seaweed. Assemble and serve.

Black Cat Bento/ Lunchbox 小黑猫饭盒



~ When black cats prowl and pumpkins gleam, may luck be yours on Halloween ~



Rice Based Food Art - Halloween Theme Bento/ Lunchbox: Black Cat Bento 小黑猫饭盒. MEOW.....





October is here and it's time for Halloween theme food. Made this not-so-frightful halloween bento/ lunchbox for the kid. 





Some quick notes of how I made this cute little black cat bento/ lunchbox:

1.  The black cat and jack-o'-lantern are made from rice that has been mixed with mashed pumpkin. 



2. Added some Furikake in the pumpkin rice, mould into cat and jack-o'-lantern, then wrap with seaweed.





3. Facial details are made of seaweed and egg sheet. 



4. Side dishes are pan fried snapper fillet, tofu with Shimeji mushrooms topped with crispy dried shrimps, served with some blanched broccoli.
