Teddy Bear On Holiday

Rice Based Food Art - Teddy Bear On Holiday. Exam was over, year end school holiday is nearing, we are tuning into holiday mode. Add a twist to the usual Japanese curry rice lunch by shaping the rice into adorable teddy bear wearing sunglasses, sunbathing, munching its favourite cracker, get ready for holiday fun!

How I made it:

1. Prepare homemade Japanese curry. I have an easy recipe to cook Japanese curry from scratch. This is the recipe I have been using for years, my kid-favourite curry. Get full recipe:  <<Click here for Homemade Japanese Curry Recipe >>

2. Portion out the cooked rice, mix with some dark soy sauce, hand mould into bear shape. Place the plain rice ball on the serving plate. Refer pictures below.

3. Place the teddy bear on the plain rice ball.

4. Make the sunglasses: Trim seaweed into sunglasses shapes. Transfer onto a slice of cheese. Cut the cheese along the edges of the seaweed.

5. Assemble: Place the sunglasses on the teddy bear, sprinkle some rice toppings on the plain rice ball. Pour the cooked curry around the rice ball and serve warm.

K. Cook Korean BBQ Buffet - Orchard Central [Restaurant Review]

K. Cook Orchard Central has just reopened after their renovation, with a new menu and different concept. This is one of the best Korean BBQ buffet in town, with wide varieties of food, good service and reasonable pricing that you can't complain.

Located at the seventh floor of Orchard Central, there are both air-conditioned and non air-conditioned dining areas which is quite cooling with good air ventilation. Reserve ahead for the best seats especially if you would like to dine at the air-conditioned area.

Non air-conditioned dining area, cooling with good air ventilation.

Air-conditioned dining area.

Air-conditioned dining area.
We were seated at the air-conditioned area which is nearer to the buffet sections. The cooked food section is just a few steps away.

Most people would head to the raw food section first but we weren't because we had to feed the hungry kid with some food first before we could move on to the grill!

Kids- friendly, cooked food & carbs section:

Kimchi Pancakes and Vegetable Pancakes.
These Korean pancakes were kept warm under the infrared Korean BBQ grill.
Taste really good!

Fried rice, Korean Soy Sauce Fried Chicken, Bossam, Seaweed Roll and Dumplings.

Japchae aka sweet & savoury Korean stir-fried glass noodles with vegetables.
They served the best Japchae I ever had in BBQ buffet.
I never expect this to be so delicious, this is the dish that will make you come back to grab for more.

Everything on this plate are  - MUST TRY!

Tteok-bokki aka Korean stir-fried rice cakes.
This dish is perfectly seasoned and cooked till "just-enough-chewiness", so flavourful and scrumptious.

The boy enjoyed the food so much, he especially love the seaweed soup, kept going back for more.

Korean Style Lunch Box. Give this a good SHAKE before consume, interesting!

Raw food, vegetables, appetiser & fresh fruits section:

There are wide varieties of meat, seafood and accompanying condiments.

Don't forget to try out the recommended sauce mix.

The boy was fascinated to create his own sauce mix.
That's what the kids love to do!
Raw meat and seafood area.
There are generous amount of marinated and non-marinated meat.

The one that the boy picked was my favourite, the spicy chicken.

The meat were well-marinated, fresh and tender.
If you love succulent and flavourful meat, don't miss these - spicy chicken and pork collar (curry).
Highly recommended!
Fresh fruits, vegetables, salad and appetisers section.

Dessert & drinks section:

Free flow of soft drinks, ice lemon tea and soft serve ice cream + unlimited toppings.

Kids can make their own soft serve ice cream topped with their favourite toppings.

Add-on to standard buffet package:

For alcohol drinker, you can opt for unlimited beer buffet for just $25.

A truly Korean BBQ experience wouldn't be complete without alcoholic drinks, seriously.

I love restaurant with flexible menu and this is the one.
You can opt for additional charge add-on items or PREMIUM buffet to enjoy free flow of additional charge items.

The verdict:

We enjoyed our visit, the ambience and dining experience was good. The staffs here are friendly, very attentive and helpful. Food is good and fresh with lots of varieties. The restaurant is clean, food hygiene and housekeeping of the premises are well maintained.

Recommendation:

Go for Premium Buffet to enjoy free flow of additional charge items. That's more worth it than ordering the items on top of standard buffet.

    No-Bake Lychee Cheesecake 免烤荔枝奶酪蛋糕

No-Bake Lychee Cheesecake 免烤荔枝奶酪蛋糕 - Pureed Lychee gives this cheesecake a light and soft texture with subtle tropical fruit flavour and it goes brilliantly with the buttery digestive biscuit base. This perfectly lite sweet melt-in-mouth creamy cheesecake is wonderfully delicious and sensational!

I have been wanting to do this for the longest time and I'm happy that I finally made it for this special occasion - my husband's birthday.

He is the guy who never appreciate fancy decorated cakes, so what I did was as simple as possible. Just placed some leftover lychees and lustred gooseberries on top and that's all for a simple yet elegant Lychee Cheesecake.

The taste was absolutely good, both the husband and son loves it and gave 2 thumbs up! :)

Made this for hubby's birthday AGAIN!
This year 2018, hubby requested the same cake for his birthday.
I was like "huh??" and he repeated "Yes, the Lychee cake that you made last year, very nice" and the son added "Yes mommy, I want to eat Lychee cheesecake!"

    Photo updated October 29, 2018.
